NYPDL March California In Person Invitational
2025 — Benicia High School, CA/US
NYPDL CALIFORNIA IN PERSON INVITATIONAL
MARCH 29 - 30th AT BENICIA HIGH SCHOOL
Hello everyone,
We are excited to welcome you to our second-ever NYPDL California tournament. Running the weekend before NPDL TOC, we are hoping this tournament will be a chance for those teams that qualified to get some practice, as well as a great tournament to close out the season for others! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email us at nyparli@gmail.com.
Location and Fees
The tournament will be at Benicia High School
Address: 1101 Military W, Benicia, CA 94510
Fees: As per usual, we are working to set the costs at the lowest amount possible. The fees for this tournament will be $15 per team, or $7.5 per debater. If that is a barrier to your school attending, please reach out to us at nyparli@gmail.com and we will gladly waive your fees. See the 'Payment information' tab for specific information regarding payments.
Judging Obligations
- Each team is required to bring one judge for every two teams, rounded unfavorably — if you are bringing three teams, you must bring two judges.
- Schools may split up judging requirements between multiple people.
- The NYPDL allows parents (regardless of experience) and varsity debaters to judge at our tournaments. Varsity debaters may only judge in the novice division.
- While experienced judges are preferred, judge training is required.
- Judges must be present for all preliminary rounds and the round after their last team has been eliminated from the break.
- If you are unable to meet the judge requirement, we reserve the right to break up an entry into two judges.
Rules
- This tournament will be held in the format established by the American Parliamentary Debate Association (APDA).
- We will release three resolutions 15 minutes prior to the start of each round.
- Internet usage, theory arguments and 'Ks' will not be permitted.
- The resolution and side will be determined by coin toss.
- For more information about the NYPDL style, feel free to consult our rulebook or coaches briefing.
Team Composition
- We encourage teams to consist of two debaters from the same school.
- However, we allow debaters to compete with a debater from another school.
- Teams will be dropped if both partners are not present in out-rounds.
- Middle schoolers are allowed to register, although they should be aware that they will be facing high schoolers
