Little Lex

Welcome to Little Lex 2024!
Little Lex will again be IN PERSON this year on Saturday, November 23, 2023 at Lexington High School.
Our intention is to offer the following divisions and events -- yes we do mean to offer coaches a choice of topics in the Novice Divisions for BOTH LD and PF. in separate novice divisions, of course.
Novice PF -- Septober Topic -- The United States federal government should substantially expand its surveillance infrastructure along its southern border.
Novice PF -- Novcember Topic -- Resolved: The United States should substantially reduce its military support of Taiwan.
Varsity PF -- Novcember Topic -- Resolved: The United States should substantially reduce its military support of Taiwan.
Novice LD -- Novice Topic -- Resolved: In a democracy, voting ought to be compulsory.
Novice LD -- Novcember Topic -- Resolved: The United States ought to adopt a wealth tax.
Varsity LD -- Novcember Topic -- Resolved: The United States ought to adopt a wealth tax.
Policy -- NFHS 2024-2025 -- Resolved: The United States federal government should significantly strengthen its protection of domestic intellectual property rights in copyrights, patents, and/or trademarks.
Some Notes on Policy:
Novice Policy (Using the NDCA Novice Packet ONLY)
Here is the link to the packet: NDCA Packet 2024-2025
JV Policy (No Argument Limits -- the proper place for second year competitors, students with previous years of middle school experience or novices who don't want to use the Packet. The JV division is for students with under 50 rounds in their career).
If there is interest in a Varsity Policy Division please contact us -- there hasn't been any since the pandemic.
Some Notes for Everyone:
1) Our fees for Little Lex are $40 per team in PF and Policy and $20 per entry in LD.
2) We will be selling lunch items at reasonable prices (cash only, please!) and students are welcome to bring their own lunches as well, but please don't plan on ordering food from outside -- the schedule is too tight to permit that.
3) We do not anticipate having any Varsity judges for hire. Please plan on bringing all of your own Varsity judges. For JV, seniors with at least 200 NSDA points can judge. For novice, juniors and seniors with at least 200 NSDA points can judge. We will have limited hired judging available for JV and novice if you do not have enough of your own, but we definitely welcome your student judges if they meet the official criteria! You need one judge for every two entries, or fraction thereof, because we are single-flighting all events.
4) Our parents will be providing hospitality to our adult coaches and judges and we will provide "Free Lunch" -- no cost meal tickets -- to student judges to eat in the cafeteria with their peers (they will NOT have access to the food in the Judges/Coaches Lounge).
5) Our schedule will be posted soon! It will be in a tab to the right. We plan to single flight all events, with LD and PF having five rounds and Policy having four. If we cannot single flight for space reasons, we will double flight, and will move to four rounds in some events. If this is the case, we will let you know well in advance. Our guests should be on the road home not later than 6:30, and probably sooner!
6) Please make checks payable to "Town of Lexington -- Debate." We'd prefer you bring your check (or cash) with you - unfortunately we have no way to accept electronic payments, and there’s no need for you to mail checks. If you still owe us money from past Lexington tournaments, you will need to settle that debt first before we admit your school to Little Lex.
7) We will have a Judge Open House on Wednesday, 11/20 that is fully optional but will provide a Q&A opportunity for first time judges. More information on that meeting is to follow.
Thanks! Kaz, Janet, and the Lexington Debate Family
