The Waco Connally High School UIL Academic team invites you to join us on Saturday, January 11 to the second annual CADET STANDARD TOURNAMENT. We are pleased to announce that we are an invitational qualifying tournament for the Texas Forensics Association. In addition to serving as an IQT, this tournament will also competition for academic competitors using UIL Set A Materials. We will offer all academic events including the hands-on portion of the Computer Science contest. We look forward to hosting your team to a day of great food, educational rounds, and FRIENDLY competition!

ACADEMIC EVENTS:

Competitors in Number Sense, Calculator, Mathematics, and Science will be broken into 9th/10th and 11th/12th grade divisions. Top scorer awards and sweepstakes points will be awarded for BOTH divisions.

Writing events will take place in a computer lab. Students may opt to handwrite or utilize their own laptops/printers if they prefer.

We have some initial limits set on entries to ensure that we have enough room to host everyone. If you have more entries than the limit allows, please just sign your students up for the waitlist. We will do our best to clear all waitlists and let any student who wants to compete have a chance to!

Spelling and Vocabulary will be taken as a WRITTEN test at this meet. We will utilize a live pronouncer.

SPEECH/DEBATE EVENTS:

Our tournament will offer three preliminary rounds of competition in debate events and will feature one guaranteed preliminary round in all TFA division individual events. We are also excited to offer competition in Prose and Poetry Interpretation.

Students will be allowed to cross enter except in CX. CX may NOT do any other event. LD/PF may cross enter in Extemp.

CX Debaters will be debating the 2024 - 2025 Resolution - Resolved: The United States federal government should significantly strengthen its protection of domestic intellectual property rights in copyrights, patents, and/or trademarks.

PF Debaters will be debating the January Resolution - Resolved:

LD Debaters will be debating the UIL Spring 2025 Resolution - Resolved:

Congressional Debaters will be debating the TFA Spring 2025 Docket. The morning session will feature debate over items 1-5. The afternoon session will use items 6-10.

World Schools Debate will use the following motions: TBD

Prose/Poetry competitors will not be required to go through documentation check. If you have questions or concerns related to your documentation, feel free to ask us about them in the tab room. We'll be glad to help you out.

FEES:

THIS EVENT IS A MAJOR FUNDRAISER FOR OUR UIL PROGRAM. WE DO NOT, HOWEVER, WANT THE COST OF ENTRY TO PROHIBIT ANY SCHOOL OR STUDENT FROM PARTICIPATING. IF COST IS AN ISSUE FOR YOU, PLEASE CONTACT MR. DONALDSON TO SEE IF WE CAN WORK OUT AN ARRANGEMENT. (I'M SURE WE CAN.)

The fee formula is as follows:

School Custodial Fee - $30.00 per school

CX Debate and World Schools Debate - $50.00 per entry

LD and PF Debate - $25.00 per entry

Individual Event (and Congressional Debate) - $15.00 per entry

Academic Event - $15.00 per entry

Missing Debate Judge Fee - $150.00 per judge

Missing IE Judge Fee - $125.00 per judge

Missing High Needs Academic Judge - $75.00 per judge

**Any school who has not completed the payment process after 30 days of the tournament is subject to a $100.00 late fee.**

JUDGING REQUIREMENTS:

CX Debate - 1 judge for every 2 entries or portion thereof

LD Debate and PF Debate - 1 judge for every 4 entries of portion thereof

IEs (and Congress)* - 1 judge for every 6 entries or portion thereof

High Needs Academic Event** - 1 judge for every 3 entries or portion thereof

*If you have a judge that is only qualified to judge some of the individual events, please indicate this in the notes section of the entry along with what events that are qualified for. If there is no note present, we will assume that the judge is qualified for all IEs and they will be placed in all pools.

**The following events are considered HIGH NEEDS: Ready Writing, Computer Applications, Journalism. We ask that schools bring judges for any academic event that they have entries in, but we desperately need judges in these events in order to ensure that the tournament runs on time.

MEAL DEALS:

We are excited to offer meal deals to schools for $7.00 a piece. The meal deal includes two slices of pizza, a bag of chips, and a drink of the student's choice. To register for meal deals, please enter the number of students you will be purchasing for on the STUDENT MEALS tab of your registration page.

JUDGING CONTRACTS:

If you are an individual that wishes to pursue a judging contract at this tournament, please contact Michael Donaldson atmdonaldson@connally.org. Please include a brief summary of your qualifications along with what events you are comfortable with judging.

Judges are encouraged to give an oral critique after debate rounds, but this form of feedback should NOT replace a well-written ballot. Additionally, all oral critiques should be short and to-the-point, and all ballots should be submitted within 5 minutes of the round's completion.
