Classes B-C Speech, Drama and Debate State Tournament
January 31-February 1, 2025


Greetings! Qualifying participants are cordially invited to HPHS for
the State Meet!


Entries: Divisional Hosts should submit results and Individual’s Team Coaches are required to register
participants by 6:00 pm on Monday, January 27th. Please register your qualifiers on Tabroom.


Registration: Please register at the high school. Registration will be available from 7:00-9:30 am.


Fees: $8.00 per competitor, calculated on Tuesday, January 28th. P.Os. and checks will be accepted.

Rules: All MHSA rules will be followed.


LD Topic: Resolved: The United States ought to become party to the United Nations Convention
on the Law of the Sea and/or the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.


Policy Topic: Resolved: The United States federal government should significantly strengthen its protection of
domestic intellectual property rights in copyrights, patents, and/or trademarks.


PF Topic: Resolved: The African Union should grant diplomatic recognition to the Republic of Somaliland as an
independent state.


Extemp Topics: Topics summitted by Short Prep Committee


Awards: Optimistic plan: Awards ceremony will start no later than 5:15 pm in the HS gym.


Areas: The tab room will be the HS Computer Lab–2nd floor above the library.

The student commons will be the High School Gym.
The hospitality room will be in the FCS room with seating there and in the Commons.
Bus drivers will have a separate “lounge” to relax in.
Drama will be primarily in the elementary building.
Speech will be primarily in the JH/HS building—Debate will be spread throughout both buildings and
Extemp will be in the CTE building (until finals).
Finals will be in the JH/HS building (as much as possible).


Parking: After students are dropped off, please have your drivers park buses in the gravel parking lot to the
south of the high school or behind the school along the fence by the elementary playground.


Food: Concessions will be available both days. There are burgers, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, polish, chili
cheese fries, pizza sticks, pretzels, nachos, and a large variety of snacks.


Coaches and bus drivers will be our guests in the hospitality room.


If you plan to run a tab, please have a sheet prepared that includes school name, student names and
allowable amount to be spent per parcipant per day. Please bring a P.O. or a check to pay your
tab.
