We are excited to announce a unique format this year given the rise of asynchronous speech competitions - this one will be different.
Every preliminary round will be based on head to head competition. Instead of speech competitors being paired against 5 other students, each speech competitor in every event will be paired against just one other competitor.
WHY? Instead of offering general feedback to the student, it allows students to receive specific feedback in terms of ranking this late in the season - so why did they get the 2 in the round instead of the 1. Each student will receive two random pre-set pairings that will protect for school conflicts on day 1. After day 1, we will pair students for Round 3, 4 and 5 against students who had similar scores as they did on day 1 (power-matching). Students will need to receive three “victories” to move on to the elimination rounds.
WHAT ABOUT ELIMINATION ROUNDS? Elimination rounds will operate as normal speech rounds where we will attempt to section six entries in each and advance the top half of each section to the next round. We will snake the elimination rounds based on the number of "winning records" and evenly divide them. It will mean more elimination rounds than normal in events, but will provide your students more feedback against the 'best' students heading into the postseason.
We hope you submit entries for January - looking forward to hosting you asynchronously.
