The Abilene Cooper High School Speech and Debate team invites you to the 2023 Cooper Polar Classic.

EVENT patterns:

Debate: CX, LD, and Congress are single entries and may not cross enter

Pattern A: DI, Info, POE, IX, DX, Duet (may enter two events within the pattern, may only enter one extemp)

Pattern B: HI, OO, POI, PRO, DUO. (may enter two events and pattern A)

Please note: cross-enter at your own risk; we'll instruct judges to be reasonable about waiting, but we will not let cross-entries be a reason for derailing the schedule.

Debate topics:

CX: The United States Federal Government should substantially increase fiscal redistribution in the United States by adopting a federal jobs gaurantee, expanding Social Security, and/or providing a basic income.

LD Topic: The United States ought to prohibit the extraction of fossil fuels from fedearl public lands and waters.

We will NOT break brackets in out-rounds of debate events.

LD will be flighted.

CONGRESS:

We will use the TFA Fall Docket.

Prelims: 11-15, Finals: 16-21

JUDGES: Each team must have an adult sponsor with them at all times, and those adult sponsors must be in the judging pool.

EVERY school must provide - at minimum- one judge who shall be available every round of the tournament. If you do not have a judge entered into the pool, your entries may be excluded from the tournament. If we need you and you are not readily available to judge, you run the risk of having your team disqualified from the tournament and/or incurring a $300 judge fine.

Awards:

Team sweepstakes awards will be calculated as follows:

1st place- 12 points

2nd place - 10 points

3rd place- 8 points

4th place- 6 points

5th - 8th place- 4 points

Sweepstakes will be awarded to the top three teams.

The top 6 placing individuals in each speech event and Congress shall receive awards.

All semi-finalists and finalists in debate events shall receive awards.
