Dear UIL Coordinator/Sponsor:
We would like to invite you to join us for our annual SSHS Judy Tipping UIL Invitational Meet. This year our event will be held on two days. Friday, Feb. 16, we will have Ready Writing, Computer Science (written and hands-on), and LD Debate. Other academic and speech events will be held on Saturday, Feb. 17. We look forward to hosting you at our event.
EVENTS/DIVISIONS: The following events will be offered: Current Issues and Events, Social Studies, Ready Writing, Literary Criticism, Spelling, Journalism, Math, Calculator, Number Sense, Science, Accounting, Computer Application, and Computer Science (written and hands-on). Speech events will include: Informative, Persuasive, Poetry, Prose, and LD Debate. Academic events will be separated into large schools (Division 1) and small schools (Division 2). Large schools will include 5A and 6A schools. Small schools will include 1A thru 4A. We reserve the right to adjust these settings to balance numbers after registration is complete.
REGISTRATION: Our registration site is http://sulphurspringshsuil.tabroom.com. Any questions about registration may be directed to Gerald Grafton at ggrafton@ssisd.net.
DEADLINES: We will need to have your registration no later than Wednesday, Feb. 14, at 5:00 pm. Invoices may be printed from our registration website.
ENTRY FEES: $10 per academic entry, $10 per speech event, $20 per LD Debate entry, $150 per unfulfilled speech/debate judge obligation.
JUDGES: Each school is required to provide judges/graders for events entered so that contests can run as smoothly and timely as possible. Please register your judges as well as your students on tabroom.com. It is especially important that each school provide a sufficient number of judges for speech events. Failure to provide judges in the speech events will result in a $150 fee per judge required.
AWARDS: Medals will be awarded to the top six finishers in each event and division. Plaques will be given to first place teams in team events. Also, sweepstakes winners will receive plaques. Sweepstakes scoring will be based on UIL standards.
TEST PROVIDERS: A+ Computer Science, Hexco, MRC, ASW, TMSCA, LMAC, and Gail Herman will be providing tests for the tournament.
CONFIDENTIALITY: In accordance with agreements with our test providers, please make sure that none of the test materials are shared outside of your school.
HOSPITALITY: We will have a hospitality room for sponsors and judges throughout the meet. Sponsors and judges will be served a light supper on Friday, and breakfast and lunch on Saturday. We will have a Concession Stand on both days for students. We have many fast food restaurants locally for those who need to take students out for meals. Most of them will deliver for a fee.
WRITING EVENT NOTES: It will be of utmost importance that each school provide graders for Ready Writing and Journalism events. Typically, small schools graders will grade large school papers and large school graders will grade small school papers.
SPELLING EVENT NOTES: The pronouncer will be Beth Grafton. The spelling test will be provided by ASW.
MATH & SCIENCE EVENT NOTES: Number Sense, Calculator Apps, Mathematics, and Science tests will be provided by TMSCA. As is customary for TMSCA events, we are giving grade-level awards for the Math and Science Events. Team scores in Math and Science events will follow UIL scoring guidelines.
Thank you and Good Luck!
