2023 — Phoenix, AZ/US
Welcome to The Maverick Invitational at Desert Vista High School!
Dates: October 20th and 21st, 2023
The beautiful campus of Desert Vista in Phoenix, Arizona, is the home of The Maverick Invitational. It will be nice to have you all visit the land of the Thunder! If you are coming from out of state or are a brand new program, make sure to email the tournament director at email@example.com we can facilitate you joining us.
New this year to The Maverick Invitational is that we have been selected as a NIETOC bid tournament. For more information, visit https://nietoc.com/ to see details. We will also be awarding TOC bids for speech events. For more information visit https://uktoc.org/bid-tournaments/#Speech to see those details.
We will also be hosting Middle School Congressional Debate for the first time! This event will take place on Saturday only.
Students will be allowed to register for Congress, one debate event, and three individual events. There are restrictions with students competing in Extemporaneous Speaking and Radio Broadcasting. If students are competing in these two events, they can only compete in two individual events, not three. These restrictions are in place to allow the tournament to run smoothly. There will also be prizes/gift cards for the winners of certain sponsor events.
Cost: $35 Team Fee, $6 for each single event, $12 for partnered events.
There will be food options for Congress for teams interested. Legislations will be due October 4th.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact the tournament director at firstname.lastname@example.org
*The competition will be in person and we will be follow the ASDCA recommendations about mask wearing, which means no one will be required to wear a mask, but we do encourage competitors, judges, and coaches recovering from sickness to wear a mask and that anyone who has Covid 19 or needs to quarantine to be responsible and respectful even if that means not attending. The campus is big and there will be plenty of room to socially distance if needed. Judges will be informed not to use the wearing of a mask to discriminate or not to use it as reason to score a competitor unjustly.
