Dear ICDA Debate Coach:

Elk Grove High School invites you and your debaters to the ICDA 1 Debate Tournament and Novice Workshop on Saturday September 30, 2023. Varsity will compete in the invitational tournament consisting of 3 sessions and Novice debaters will take part in the Novice Workshop and debate for 2 sessions.

Parking:

Since there will be multiple events taking place at our school on Saturday, upon your arrival, please direct your bus to the southeast parking lot (football field side of the building) which is most easily accessed from the entrance off of Arlington Heights Road. Everyone should enter the building through Door 29 which is the door with the canopy.

Entry Deadline:

Entry Deadline: All entries are due by 5:00 P.M. on Friday, September 22nd on Tabroom.com. A school may enter up to 45 debaters at the Varsity level. There is no limit to the number of Novice entries. All competitors should have a Tabroom account that is linked to your school.

Legislation:

Legislation for ICDA 1 was received on August 30th. All 9 bills will be debated at the Varsity level and 6 bills at the Novice level. The 3 Varsity Only Bills are 103, 203, and 301.

Tournament Registration Fee:

The entry fee is $10 per debater. This is based on your original registration on tabroom.com. TOURNAMENT REGISTRATION checks should be made payable to:

All schools must pay $20 to ICDA in dues to participate. Please bring a separate check or mail in advance to:

Registration 7:15-7:45am

Judge meeting 8:00-8:15am

Session 1/Novice Workshop 8:15-10:30am

Break 10:30-11:00am

Session 2 11:00-1:15pm

Lunch 1:15-2:00pm

Session 3 2:00-4:15pm

Elections/Awards ASAP

Judging:

·One ICDA Certified judge is required for every nine entries (or fraction thereof – so 10 students would require 2 full-time judges).

·Judges should be entered on Tabroom no later than Wednesday, September 27th at 5 PM.

·All judges should have a Tabroom account that is linked to your school.

·A full-time judge is considered as someone who judges THREE full rounds over the one-day period.

·Please expect that your judges will judge three rounds.

·Judging assignments will be posted at the tournament.

·Judging assignments will not be available until the day of the tournament.

·Judging assignments and responsibilities will be based upon original registration at the entry deadline; drops will not be considered when scheduling judges.

·It is the responsibility of the head coach to ensure that ALL hired judges are trained and prepared to judge the event.

New Judge Training:

All new ICDA judges should attend new judge training during Session 1. This includes observing a varsity chamber during Session 1. Randy Smith is in charge of new judge training.

Novice Workshop:

All novice debaters will participate in a Novice Workshop during Session 1 led by a head coach. All novices will be able to observe a varsity chamber during the workshop. Head coaches, please let me know if you would like to lead a novice workshop in session 1 at matthew.bohnenkamp@d214.org. Head coaches, please also send me the names of Varsity PO’s interested in being a PO in a Novice Chamber to matthew.bohnenkamp@d214.org. If you have more than one, please rank them in order of preference. Varsity PO’s who PO in the Novice Workshop are not eligible to PO in their Varsity Chamber.

Legislation:

Submissions for the October 28th ICDA Tournament (ICDA 2) AND November 11th ICDA Tournament (ICDA 3) must be submitted to Tabroom with your ICDA 1 registration on September 22nd.

Food:

A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided for coaches and judges. Pizza will be available for lunch for debaters. You may order pizza for your team on Tabroom. Pizza orders need to be submitted by Friday, September 22 at 5:00 P.M. Payment for pizzas will be taken during registration on the day of the tournament. Checks should be made out to:
