Jack C Hays Hawkoween Classic

Jack C. Hays Speech and Debate students cordially invite you and your team to the Jack C. Hays Hawkoween TFA Classic and NIETOC Qualifier on Saturday, October 21st. The tournament will be run entirely in person at Jack C. Hays High School in Buda, Texas. Buda is located just west of I-35, in between Austin and San Marcos. We are about twenty minutes south of Austin and 45 minutes north of San Antonio; reasonably priced hotels are available nearby for out-of-town guests.

We will be offering the following debate and speaking events: LD Debate, CX Debate, PF Debate, World Schools Debate, Congressional Debate (Student Congress), Foreign Extemp, Domestic Extemp, Original Oratory, Duo Interp, Dramatic Interp, Humorous Interp, Duet Acting, Informative Speaking, Program of Oral Interpretation, Prose, and Poetry. TFA rules and time limits will be followed in all events. We will not break brackets in debate.

Numbers permitting, NOVICE DIVISIONS will be offered in LD Debate, CX Debate, Extemporaneous Speaking, Poetry, and Prose. We will be using US Economics as the topic area for Novice Extemp.

Student Congress: We will use items 18-24 for prelims and 25-30 for finals. As per the amendment that passed at the TSCA convention on 10/13, the docket order will be set. The TFA Constitution states, "Following the first two speeches on legislation, the presiding officer will alternately recognize affirmative and negative speakers...There is no “minimum cycle.” (Page 67, Section 2)
