Social Advocacy Charity Thru Debate Invitational Summer
2023 — NSDA Campus, NJ/US
WELCOME!
This debate tournament is a completely student-run tournament. As debaters, we speak up and discuss current events and social issues. As it is a very important extracurricular activity across the world, I want to use debate as an opportunity to spread awareness for an ongoing societal issue. As seen in the title, this debate tournament will act as a fundraiser for the National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum (depending on how this tournament goes, perhaps another one will be hosted, for a different foundation). This foundation was founded in 1996 with the vision of amplifying AAPI women’s power and voices through impacting policy and pushing towards systemic change in the United States. It is increasingly urgent to raise money and awareness for this cause due to the recent restriction on reproductive health and rights through the overturning of Roe v. Wade, increases in Asian American hate crimes due to COVID-19, increases in the stereotype “Model Minority Myth” which continues to misrepresent AAPI people, and economic restrictions on women of color. (More information about this foundation is enclosed here).
Tournament Info:
The tournament will cost $15 per individual person ($30 per team) and ALL funds will go towards the National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum.
