The 1^st Lennox Speech and Debate Take Flight Tournament

Lennox Speech and Debate is happy to invite you to the first ever Take Flight tournament taking place December 9, 2023 at Lennox High School. This tournament will feature four rounds of debate and two rounds of speech events in a one-day tournament. Registration is now open on Tabroom and we are excited to host you for this initial year of our tournament.

Schedule- For this first year, we will have four rounds of debate and two rounds of speech. There will be no finals (this year). The schedule is designed to offer students an opportunity to gain experience and hone their skills in a time-friendly schedule. Below is the schedule we will use this year.

Registration: 8:30-9:15

General Meeting: 9:15

Round 1 debate: 9:30

Round 2 debate: 10:30

Round 3 debate: 11:30

Food break-

Speech round 1: 1:10 PM

Speech round 2: 2:25 PM

Debate Round 4: 3:45 PM (powered from rounds

Awards ASAP (hopefully around 5:20 PM)

Unique things happening!

· We will offer novice divisions in extemp, oratory, and informative as well as both debate events.

· We will offer mini sections of extemp (this way they can research and speak in a normal speech round). You cannot double enter anyone in extemp and another event. There will be domestic and international questions speakers can choose from. We will not be separating varsity.

· We will offer impromptu speaking as an event. There will be two rounds in the event. Round 1 will be a quotation. Round 2 will be an object that can be found in a school building. Students will be able to choose from two options for their speech.

· Low costs- We will be charging $5 for speech and debate entries ($8 for PF). We are giving awards to the top 3 speakers/Teams in all events. We will also have special awards for the top three speakers in the Team debate events.

· We will have limited judges to hire for the tournament at the cost of $80 for debate judges and $40 for speech judges.
