Overview:

The UDCA is proud to host a State championship tournament for the young debaters of Utah. The tournament will be held May 10th (Elementary) and May 11th (Middle School) at Alta High School. Please use the navigation bar on the right to view specific details on the schedule, qualification procedures, and more. Registration is due by May 5th.

Events:

Middle Schools: Policy, Lincoln-Douglas, Extemp, Oratory, and Asynchronous Speech*.

Elementary Schools: Public Forum, Oratory, Informative, and Asynchronous Speech*.

Asynchronous Speech: The tournament is offering a special online asynchronous division for speech events. Students who are not competing at the in-person tournament may submit their pre-recorded video speeches for evaluation (kind of like an oral essay contest). There is no entry limit for this asynchronous division, but students can't double-enter with in-person events.

Topics:

MS Policy - ""Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its security cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in the area of artificial intelligence and/or cybersecurity."

MS Lincoln-Douglas - "Resolved: The appropriation of outer space by private entities is unjust."

Elementary PF - "Resolved: In the United States, the benefits of increasing organic agriculture outweigh the harms."

Extemp - Round 1 is Local Utah Issues, Round 2 is National Politics, and Round 3 is International Economics.

Fees:

School Fee of $15.00.

$4.00 per Student Fee (that means team events are $8.00)

Asynchronous speech entries are only $1.00.
