The tournament is open to all member schools of the Southern California Debate League

Events: All California individual events, plus SPAR. Competitors may eneter ANY TWO EVENTS - EXCEPT students cannot double-enter both extemps, or Extemp and SPAR

SCHEDULE:

7:30 am to 8:00 am -- Check in

Round 1--8:00-- First speaker begins speaking in all events (1st speaker draws in Extemp)

Round 2--9:45-- First speaker begins speaking in all events (1st speaker draws in Extemp)

Round 3--11:30-- First speaker begins speaking in all events (1st speaker draws in Extemp)

Finals -- 1:30-- First speaker begins speaking in all events (1st speaker draws in Extemp)

Awards-- 3:30 pm

We will move rounds earlier if we can -------pay attention to postings on Tabroom.com and text/email announcements!!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION - PLEASE READ:

1.You must have paid your CHSSA dues AND YOUR SPRING & FALL SCDL BILLS prior toenteringthis tournament.

2. THIS TOURNAMENT IS ONLY FOR NOVICE (first year) and JV (second year STUDENTS who have NOT qualified for State or Nationals during their high school speaking careers.

3. All speech events run simultaneously on Saturday

4. Students may only enter 1 extemp

5. Make sure you have enough judges at this tournament. Any school failing to provide the proper number of judges may have some of its entries dropped. 1 judge for every 5 entries

6. register all entries by 5pm on Friday, April 28 ( you may drop until Tuesday, May 2)

ENTRIES FOR SCHOOLS NOT MEETING THESE CRITERIA WILL NOT BE HONORED.

COACH REQUIREMENT

If you, the coach of record, are not going to be attending the tournament, you must send either an employee representing your school and have them check in your team at the beginning of the tournament. The Coach or school representative must be contactable throughout the tournament in case of an issue or emergency.

If you, the coach of record, are sending a volunteer and/or parent to care for your team. You must have a letter from your school, signed by your principal indication the person you are sending is the official "chaperone" of your team for the day. The letter must be turned in to the tournament director prior to the beginning of the tournament. Failure to do so may result in your student not being allowed to compete.

Whomever you put in charge of your team should have the student emergency medical forms/permission slips/parent contact forms for your team. Protect your students, yourself and your "representative".

ADDITIONAL INFO:

Novice students are those in their first year of high school competition. JV students are 2nd year students.

Students who have qualified for State and/or Nationals can NOT enter the same event in this tournament as they qualified for State and/or National

Each coach may select an MVP or top student participating at each novice tournament. That student would be recognized with an award by each individual coach. It is the coach's discretion whether or not to give the award.
