February 25, 2023

West High School

The Region 2 Debate Tournament will be held on Saturday, February 25th at West High School with the following Region 2 schools: Cyprus, Granger, Hunter, Kearns, Roy, Taylorsville, and West. Please see the information below for specifics:

Topics:

We will be using the March topics for PF and LD. We will be using December, January, and February topics for Extemp.

Entries:

We are following the handbook with the following entry limits for events:

· Four entries per school for Congress, LD, PF, and Policy.

· Four entries per school for FX, NX, Impromptu, Oratory, Informative, and Combined Interps.

Judges:

Please begin reaching out to unaffiliated judges for Region. We will have forms printed and ready for judges to be paid for their help. If you have unaffiliated judges who are able to help with Congress and Policy specifically, please let me know. Remember, if you have policy teams, you must bring policy judges. We will look into hiring some unaffiliated judges as well.

**As always, tournaments move as quickly as our slowest judge. We will try to expedite the events when possible.

Our tournament is committed to providing its students, judges, coaches, and staff (participants) the opportunity to pursue excellence in their endeavors. This opportunity can exist only when each member of our community is assured an atmosphere of civility, mutual respect, generosity, and kindness.

Our tournament prohibits all forms of harassment and discrimination, whether written, oral, or performative. Accordingly, all forms of harassment, discrimination, including presenting or evaluating arguments in round, based on a participant's race, color, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, marital status, citizenship, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by any applicable federal, state, or local law are prohibited. Participants may not engage in any sexually explicit or illegal behavior and should refrain from the use of profanity. Participants are also bound by the code of conduct and any institutional rules of their own schools and should conduct themselves as if they are in a classroom environment. Individuals who are found to have violated this policy will be subject to the full range of sanctions, including the loss of a round, disqualification, and up to removal from the tournament premises."
