Registration is now open on for the 2nd MSQI Debate tournament of the year on Saturday, February 11 at In-tech Academy in the Bronx. The tournament runs from approximately 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (not including travel time). Breakfast and lunch will be available.

This tournament is only open to middle schools currently in the MSQI Debate League.

Registration will close on Thursday, January 26 at 5:00pm. We encourage coaches to begin registering and creating Tabroom accounts as early as possible.

The resolution for the debate is

  • The US federal government should legalize the use of medical marijuana.

Students must prepare to argue both the pro and con side to this resolution. Copies of the Starter Pack of research to support coaches and students are available online in English and Spanish.

Important reminders:

  • This debate is scheduled to be in-person. We are working on finalizing safety protocols for the tournament and will share those as soon as we can.

  • Debaters do not need to be vaccinated to participate in the tournament.

  • All judges and coaches must have 1 dose of vaccination to participate. Schools are required to bring 1 volunteer judge for every two teams they register. Please see Item III below for full details.

  • Family members who are not judges or other observers are not permitted at this tournament.

  • MSQI Debate will be able to offer bussing for this tournament. Be sure to fill out the request form.

  • We continue to offer four divisions of competition: Novice (debaters who have not debated prior to this year), Intermediate (2nd year), Advanced (3rd year), and Spanish-language.
