South Oregon District Qualifier
for the 2023 National Tournament
South Oregon Coaches,
It's time once again to test ourselves and decide who is off to Phoenix, AZ this June 12-16! Please read over this page as well as the pages for each of the Tournament Series events, and email or call me with questions.
As always, I would encourage you to fill your slots. Please be aware: We must have 4 entries in each event in order to run the event.
Participant Requirements:
Both schools and competitors must be members 7 days prior to the tournament start date (3/4/2023). The number of entries allowed is based on the formula as of that date, which you can find by clicking on the District Info tab in your NSDA Account. Big Question (BQ) and World Schools have unlimited entries. Note that all competitors in the BQ qualifier must also be NSDA members.
NSDA Forms:
Single Entry Preferences- Please rank your preferences in Tabroom and print & sign the forms. These must be turned in BEFORE the student’s first round of competition.
School Consent- Please print and sign. These must be turned in BEFORE the first round of competition for your school.

Piece Submission Information:
Oratory, Informative Entries: Prior to March 11, create and share a copy of the speech through Google Docs with SouthOregonNSDA@gmail.com. Please bring a signed copy of the script with any quoted words highlighted. By signing, you and your competitor testify that it is the original work of the student. We encourage all coaches to be proactive and verify this in advance.
Interpretation Event Entries: Please bring a signed copy of the script with any quoted words highlighted. You must also present a copy of the original source material and have it with you throughout the tournament. Digital material must meet the current NSDA digital publication guidelines.
Proof of Publication: All interpretation material must be published according to the rules found in the Competition Events Guide. BE SURE YOU HAVE RECORDED YOUR PUBLICATION INFO IN TABROOM.
World School:
Please complete no later than 3/3/2023. Worlds Nomination Form
Student of the Year:
Each school attending the NSDA tournaments may nominate one senior for the honor of South Oregon District Student of the Year. Please complete the form available on the NSDA website and bring it with you. High School Coach of the Year:
Each school attending the NSDA tournaments may nominate one coach for the honor of South Oregon District Student of the Year. Please complete the form and letter of recommendation. Judging:
Please bring qualified judges with you, as we would like to finish on time. This can only be done with a large pool willing to judge all events.

Congress, Speech and Debate Expectations: 1-6 entries: 1 judge, 7-12 entries: 2 judges, 13+ entries: 3 judges (congress judges may wind up judging BQ if they are affiliated with a team).

BQ Expectations are 1 judge per 2 entries.

Coaches are expected to judge. Please make yourself available for all rounds your students advance to, plus 1 round after. For both judging and official reasons, please check with the tournament director if you need to leave for any reason.
If you bring judges beyond your obligation, they can be paid on a per round basis by request.
Electronic Ballots
All rounds will use electronic ballots on Tabroom.com this year. Every judge should bring an internet capable device (phone, tablet, laptop, etc). We will not have computers available to judges. All judges will need to set up accounts on Tabroom.com to receive and return ballots. There will be several people on-hand to help train judges new to the system.

Fees:
$40 school fee (owed only once for the tournament series)
$15.00 per speech or debate event
$10.00 per congress entry
$5 per Big Question debate
Judging fees: $15 per uncovered speech, debate (including BQ and Worlds) entry
