Uptown Optimist Electric City Battle Royale

You are cordially invited to attend the Electric City Battle Royale Speech and Debate Tournament on the 9th and 10th of December, hosted by Charles M. Russell and Great Falls High Schools. We will be utilizing tabroom.com for registration: Electric City Battle Royale (http://electriccitybattleroyale.tabroom.com). The site will allow you to manage your entry until 8:00pm on Tuesday, December 6th, and complete your own drops until 4:00pm on Wednesday December 7th. However, we do ask that you complete a best estimate entry by 4:00pm on Wednesday, November 23rd, and a final registration by 4:00pm Tuesday November 29th, so that we can have judges and rooms sorted. You will be able to make changes up until December 7th without penalty, but having an idea of space and judging needs early will be crucial for a smooth tournament. There will be a limit of 4 entries per event, JV entries will be evaluated on a case by case basis. We will evaluate ABC school entries on a case by case basis. Varsity and Novice divisions will be offered in both Policy and Lincoln Douglas events. All other events are open division. Extemp draw room will be announced in the email and posted at the entrance to CMR High School. Covid Protocols:

Competitors are suggested to not shake hands with judges.

Entry Fees: There will be no on-site registration. All double-checking and changes will be done by coaches via tabroom.com and after 4:00pm on December 7th, via email. Please expect an email on Thursday, December 8th with final codes and registration.

Each school will be charged $5.00 per student entry. Partner events will be $10.00 ($5.00 for each student).

There will be no fees for drops, additions or changes up to Wednesday, December 7th at 8:00pm. Any changes after Wednesday 8:00pm will be assessed a $5.00 penalty. Changes on Friday, December 9th will cost $20.00.

We will conduct all events according to the 2022-2023 MHSA Handbook, except as noted on this invitation.

In order to run on time, the first two rounds of all debate events will be pre-paired, and prelim rounds 3-5 will be paired based on results from 2 rounds previous (i.e., round 3 will be paired based on results from round 1, round 4 from round 1 &2, Round 5 from rounds 1-3). Eliminary rounds will be paired using all 5 prelims.

Semi-Finals and Finals of VLD and Forum will be single flighted.

Rules: The MHSA handbook rules will be enforced.

Logistics: Concessions will not be available at either high school, but fast food, grocery and gas stations are a short walk away. Delivery options are also available. A hospitality room will be available for judges and coaches each day and both locations.

A tabroom will be set up in the Charles M. Russell High School media center/library. There will be Saturday School happening from 8:00am-12:00pm. We ask that coaches respect this and keep noise down during this time. The Great Falls High School tabroom will be announced later.

Awards location will be announced at a later date.

Registration Debate events will be held at Great Falls High School - 1900 2nd Ave S; Great Falls, MT 594052. Speech events and Legi will be held at Charles M. Russell High School – 228 17th Ave NW; Great Falls MT 59404.

Initial registration due by Wednesday, November 23rd at 4:00pm

Final registration due by Tuesday, November 29th at 4:00pm

You may bring JV entries as noted above.

Varsity and Novice divisions will be offered in Policy and LD. All other events are Open divisions.

All MHSA sanctioned AA events will be offered. All events will be run according to MHSA rules and ethics guidelines. Please familiarize yourselves and your competitors with the Speech and Debate rules in the MHSA Forensics Rulebook. We will be using NSDA Nationals style slips for extemp draw. Three random topics per draw sheet and the topics will still be of the same round theme.

Final Registration due by Tuesday, November 29th at 4:00pm; you will receive an email confirming codes and registration.

Please note that the first round will not start until 4:30 – our classes dismiss at 3:15 and our busses are in the parking lot until 3:40 – do not bring busses into the bus parking lot or unload your teams until after 3:40.
