The Mile High at Denver East High School

The Denver East Forensics Team is overjoyed to be back in person this year, and we hope that you come and join us at East High School for the Annual Mile High Speech and Debate Tournament on November 11th and 12th. This is a bid tournament for the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions, and we are excited to be hosting the first two debate rounds virtually! We are offering four rounds for all competitors in both speech and debate events.
Events: Lincoln Douglas Debate, Public Forum Debate, Mixed Extemporaneous Speaking, Dramatic Interp, Humorous Interp, Informative Speaking, Poetry Interp, Original Oratory, Duo Interp, Program Oral Interp, Policy (JV), Policy (V)
Entries: Six entries per school are allowed in each event. We will accommodate additional entries if judges are provided for entries. Thank you for helping us run a timely tournament for all!
Debate Topics: November NSDA resolutions will be used for Public Forum and Lincoln Douglas Debates.
Doubling: Debaters may not double enter. Speech students may enter multiple events if they so choose, but Exempers will risk losing prep time.
Internet: Guest Wifi is available through Denver Public Schools. This tournament will run using online ballots, so remind your judges and your students that WiFi will be available, and they should plan on bringing a device capable of making an internet connection. We will use the NSDA rules for internet use.
Rules: We will abide by NSDA rules and rankings for speech and debate events.

Check-In: Registration for debates on Friday will begin at 4pm. Saturday morning registration will begin at 7am.

Judging:
– 3 rounds of debate judging per 2 debate entries
– 1 judge for every 6 speech entries
Please bring a judge to cover three rounds for each two debate entries and each six
speech event entries. The tournament will compensate hired judges for all rounds, school-supplied judges for each round after three (3), and provide judges breakfast, lunch, and snacks. There will be a $20/round fee to hire local judges for unmet judging burdens. Judges will be compensated for providing constructive feedback to students. We may request coaches to judge rounds free of charge to keep the tournament on time. Please send someone qualified to judge if you will not be with your team. Extemporaneous Speaking: Extemporaneous speaking will be Mixed Extemp, but students have the option of drawing from international and/or national topics.
