Dr. Barbara Lowe Charger Challenge

 

Speech and Debate Community,

We wish to formally invite you to attend the Dr. Barbara Lowe Charger Challenge, taking place November 18-19 at Oxford High School.

Event Offerings:
Debate:
Public Forum (Novice & Varsity), Lincoln Douglas (Novice & Varsity), Policy Debate, Congressional Debate, and Big Questions.

Flight A Individual Events:
Prose (Novice & Varsity), Impromptu, Dramatic Interpretation, Duet Acting, Original Oratory, Programmed Oral Interpretation, and Expository Speaking (9th and 10th grades only).

Flight B Individual Events:
Extemporaneous Speaking (Novice & Varsity), Humorous Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Poetry Interpretation (Novice & Varsity), Declamation (9th & 10th grades only), Informative Speaking, and Storytelling (9th & 10th grades only).

Schedule:
Debate prelims will be held on Friday evening with all individual events on Saturday. In Debate events (with the exception of Congressional Debate), quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals will be held on Saturday morning. Congressional Debate will have 2 preliminary sessions held on Friday evening, with Finals being held Saturday morning. A more detailed schedule will be posted on Tabroom.


Legislation:
 The MHSAA Bill Book will be used for tournament legislation, with any out of state schools sending supplemental legislation to rlbankston@oxfordsd.org by November 4th.

Awards:
Those advancing to elimination rounds in Debate; finals in Individual Events; and top 8 in Congress; will be individually recognized at our awards ceremony. We will also be awarding sweepstakes trophies to the top schools in Debate and Speech, as well as the top schools overall. Additionally, we will award  “top individual performer” awards to the highest performing students at the tournament.

Entry Limits:
All students are permitted to enter 4 events total, either choosing between 2 Flight A’s and 2 Flight B’s; or 1 Debate, 1 Flight A, and 2 Flight B’s.

Deadlines:
Registration closes November 14th at midnight and Judge Registration closes November 15th at 5 PM.
