Roy High School Speech and Debate is excited to invite you to the first Royal Rumble Middle School Tournament to kick off the Northern Utah Middle School Tournament Circuit.  

Events and Divisions

• Debate Events:

• Lincoln Douglas: TOPIC: "Resolved: In a democracy, a free press ought to prioritize objectivity over advocacy"

• Policy: TOPIC: "Resolved: the United States federal government should substantially increase its security cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in the area of artificial intelligence and/or cybersecurity"

• Speech Events:

• Original Oratory

• Extemporaneous Speaking: We will be using the OCTOBER practice questions from NSDA.  Questions will be posted to the tournament as soon as they are released.

Schedule

• 3:00-3:30pm: Registration 

• 3:30-4:30pm: Speech and Debates Round 1

•  

• 4:45-5:45pm: Speech and Debates Round 2

•  

• 6:00-7:00pm: Speech and Debates Round 3

• 7:30pm: Awards

Judges

Teams are expected to provide 1 judge for every 2 debate entries and 1 judge for every 6 speech entries.  Extra judges are always welcome and appreciated.  High School students MAY judge.  

Cost

• $15 per team

• $4 per individual entry 

• There will be concessions available for purchase.
