Our tournament will follow this schedule, which may run faster at the discretion of the Tournament Director. Please be on time so we can start rounds promptly.

Food and snacks will be available throughout the tournament. Dinner will be pizza, and will be offered for $4 a plate starting at approximatley 5:30 pm. Dinner will be provided for coaches and judges.

Rules

We will follow the UDCA middle school times, topics, and rules. Topics are as follows:

• Lincoln Douglas: "Resolved: In a democracy, a free press ought to prioritize objectivity over advocacy"

• Policy: "Resolved: the United States federal government should substantially increase its security cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in the area of artificial intelligence and/or cybersecurity"

Topics for extemp will be created using modified NSDA November Practice Topics. General topic groupings will be released on November 7.

By request of a Junior High near Viewmont, Impromptu and SPAR will also be offered. We will use normal high school times for both.

Judging

To keep the tournament running smoothly, we ask all teams to provide 2 judges per 3 debate entries and 1 judge per 4 speech entries. Judges may be Juniors and Seniors in high school with at least one year of experience in debate.

Awards

We will award 1st through 3rd in all divisions, with first place recipients receiving coveted Viking helmets.
