Sequoyahs Autumn Argument

Sequoyah's Autumn Argument is back in-person this year on Saturday, October 22nd!

We offer a variety of debate and speech events for both high school and middle school students.

In the debate category, we will offer Rookie, Novice, JV, and Varsity Policy Debate; they will debate Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its security cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in one or more of the following areas: artificial intelligence, biotechnology, cybersecurity.

Novice and Varsity Lincoln Douglas Debate; they will debate Resolved: The United States ought to implement a single-payer universal healthcare system.

Middle School, Novice, and Varsity Public Forum Debate; they will debate Resolved: Resolved: The United States Federal Government should substantially increase its investment in high-speed rail.

In the speech category, the following events will be offered to high school competitors: Dramatic Interp, Humorous Interp, Duo Interp, Program of Oral Interp, Original Oratory, Informative Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Impromptu.

For middle school speech competitors, we will offer the following events: Dramatic Performance (mix of all interp events), Oratory (mix of original oratory and informative speaking), and Impromptu. Note: If there are enough entries in middle school dramatic performance and oratory to warrant dividing those sections into the specific divisions that mirror those available to high school students, we will do this.

A note about hired judging:

We do not guarantee teams may compete based on hired judging. This is on a case-to-case basis. Please make every effort to fulfil your judge obligations.
