 Dear UIL Coordinator/ Sponsor:

Troup High School would like to respectfully invite you to our very first speech and debate meet. Our speech and debate meet will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022.

EVENTS:          All UIL Speech and Debate

REGISTRATION:          As of right now, email entries to rriggins@troupisd.org

DEADLINES:    All entries are due online by 5:00 pm on Thursday, October 20, 2022. You may change names after this date, BUT drops made after Friday, October 21, 2022 at 5:00 pm will result in the loss of your entry fee.

JUDGING:        Each school is expected to supply a judge for every TWO CX debate entries or portion therefore, and for every FOUR IE/LD entries or portion thereof.  There will be a $150 missing judge fee.

1 judge for every 4 LD contestants

1 judge for every two CX teams or part thereof

1 judge for every 6 Prose/Poetry/ Extemporaneous Contestants

Judging fees are $150/judge for debate and speaking events if you do not provide a judge, however, we prefer judges over fees.

AT MINIMUM, speech/debate tea coaches MUST serve as judges.

ENTRY FEES:

·         CX Entries: $30/team

·         LD Entries: $20

·         Speech Events $10

·         All Other Events: $8

AWARDS: Medals will be awarded for the top 6 places in each event.

OTHER INFORMATION:

UIL CX:  Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its security cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in one or more of the following areas: artificial intelligence, biotechnology, cybersecurity.

EXTEMP: All current UIL rules related to the disabling of Wi-Fi or other internet access must be followed.

UIL LD:  Resolved:  Amateur status ought to be valued above commodification of Name Image Likeness.

POETRY & PROSE: Selections will be the reader’s choice. SCHEDULE
