Dear Schools,

 

Welcome to the 1st Quarterly Black Bear Debate Tournament. The tournament will begin on Saturday, September 24th, 2022, from 8:30 AM (PST) to 6:00 PM (PST).

  

We are happy to offer novice Lincoln Douglas, novice Public Forum, and novice Spontaneous Argumentation for debaters to compete. All students will have a quality tournament experience, and we hope they can use this opportunity to grow their debate skills.

 

Debate Topics

 

LINCOLN DOUGLAS

Topic: The United States ought to implement a single-payer universal healthcare system.


PUBLIC FORUM

Topic: The United States Federal Government should substantially increase its investment in high-speed rail.

SPONTANEOUS ARGUMENTATION

Topic: Topics will be given during rounds

 

 

Schedule

 

Tournament Date: Saturday, September 24, 2022

Everybody should be in the zoom meeting by 8:15 AM (PST)

First Round: 8:30 AM -10:00 AM (PST)

Second Round: 11:00 AM -12:30 PM (PST)

Third Round: 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM (PST)

Fourth Round: 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM (PST)

*Results will be out by 9:00 PM (PST​) same day

 

Independent Entries

 

A school coach or adult authorized by a school administrator to serve as the school sponsor may enter students to the Black Bear Debate Tournament on Tabroom. We also accept independent entries. Students cannot register themselves but can be registered by parents. 

 

Judges

 

Parents of competitors are invited to judge in this tournament!

All judges must be over 18 years old.

Judges must have/must create a personal Tabroom account before the tournament and have personal devices that can connect to the internet. We will be doing e-ballots.

​Judges must judge throughout the day.​

If a judge does not show up for a round, they will have to pay a fine.​
