RE:  Brookings Interp Contest

We are pleased to invite you to the fourteenth annual Brookings Middle School Oral Interp Contest. It will be held Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Mickelson Middle School.  (The middle school is located at 1801 12th street south. Most people come in on 8th street south and turn south at the large catholic church.) Please use the front (south) door to the school. 

We will offer three rounds of competition in humorous, oratory, poetry, and dramatic divisions at the 7th and 8th grade levels as well as an open duet and open storytelling division. If your team includes 6th graders, they may enter into the 7th grade division. Time limits for all events except storytelling will be 10 minutes. 

***Again this year: we will be offering an open division of storytelling.  The time limit for this event is 5 minutes.  Students may stand, use a chair, or a combination of both. Any topic may be used - there is no set theme.  

Coaches will register this year using Tabroom.com.  If you are new to Tabroom, please see the tutorial linked below.  If you need help, I am happy to answer any questions you may have (or if you are totally uncomfortable, send me your entries through email and I can create your entry on my end).

Students may double enter, but they are responsible for getting to rounds on time.  There is a registration fee of $2 per individual entry and $4 per duet.  Each school is required to furnish one judge for every six (or fraction thereof) entries.  (For example, 1-6 entries requires 1 judge; 7-12 entries requires 2 judges, etc.)  High school students in grades 10-12 who have participated in a significant number of high school oral interp rounds may serve as judges. You MUST bring that number of judges on Saturday. Failure to do so will throw the tournament off schedule. This would be unfair for the contestants as well as anyone else attending the contest. A limited number of judges will be available. If you need to hire a judge, indicate that on your entry. 

Registrations are due Tuesday, March 29 at 6:00 pm. Fees and judges will be based on entries received at that time. Checks should be made out to Brookings NSDA. 

The following schedule will be used:

8:15-8:45—Registration in the cafetorium

9:00—General Meeting

9:15—Round 1

10:30—Round 2

11:45—Round 3

1:30 Results

Lunch will be available at the school.  

Please return the enclosed registration so I have received it by Tuesday, March 31.  You may email your entry to carrie.oorlog@k12.sd.us.
