2022 Mid America Championship (MAC) Invite

The University of Central Oklahoma Speech and Debate team invites you to attend the 2022 Mid America Championship (MAC) Online Debate Tournament. The MAC was born as a separate division for the D3 schools to enter their teams not competing at the NDT District 3 qualifier. This year we are offering the MAC as a stand alone tournament on the weekend prior to the D3 tournament, February 18-20, 2022. The tournament will use a 2-3-1+elims schedule. The full schedule for the tournament can be found here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UH0Cmk08G61vq7wrA_Sqhf2uubkyx13yxYH0cd0oyy0/edit?usp=sharing

The tournament will be hosted over Zoom. A meeting link will be emailed to all prior to the start of the tournament on Friday. We will offer competition in Novice and Open divisions and do our best to preserve a stand alone novice pool. All divisions will use the 9-3-6 format with 10 minutes of preparation time. The current NDT/CEDA topic will be utilized. Hybrids are allowed. Debaters are allowed to debate maverick and advance to the elims. Clearing teams: We will clear half of the field in each division.

Judging: Each school is required to provide one judge for every two debate entries or portion thereof, entered. Judges covering one team are committed for three preliminary rounds. All judges are obligated through the first full elimination. All judges are obligated for one elimination round after their teams have been eliminated. Teams are responsible for providing and finding the judges to cover their obligations. Judges who are only qualified to hear novice or JV debate rounds can only cover teams in those divisions. If you bring an open team, you must have a judge that can provide judging in the open division.

Part of the spirit of the MAC is to get people the rounds they need to be eligible judges at the NDT. As a result MUTUALITY of preference may trump ordinal preference rank of judges if it allows us to help colleagues gain rounds towards NDT eligibility.

Entry Fees: $15 per team to cover expenses for the tournament. $60 per round of uncovered judging.
