WELCOME TO THE REGIONAL TOURNAMENT!

COVID PRECAUTIONS: 

We will not be serving/selling any hot food in the judges’ lounge or cafeteria. We will have several grab and go snacks available as well as bottled water, coffee, and canned drinks. We will not be serving breakfast or lunch, which I am hoping will not be a huge problem since the tournament will be over by 1:00 p.m. There are some fast food restaurants near the school if a parent or coach wants to go out and pick up lunch for their group. There are also a couple of pizza delivery places.

Teams will be assigned a “hangout” space in the high school at the beginning of the tournament. All students, coaches, and judges for that team should report to their designated room when they are not actively competing or judging in a round. Individuals should go to the judges lounge and/or concession area of the cafeteria one at a time (please do not roam the school in groups). Only tournament staff and hired judges should be “hanging around” in the cafeteria or the office.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: EVERY person MUST wear a mask at all times when inside any campus building EXCEPT when performing in competition rooms. Judges, observers, coaches, tournament officials, etc. must all wear their masks unless actively eating or drinking.

JUDGE TRAINING AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

At the 2021 KHSSL Board of Directors meeting, the Board passed a requirement for all judges to go through a training regarding implicit biases. Your judges must complete this online training before your Regional tournament. Please don’t wait until the last minute; if your judges are not trained before the tournament begins, they will be dropped, and you will have to pay the $100 drop fee before your kids can compete, so please don’t let this slide.

Judges at the Regional Tournament must be available for all rounds. 

Please make your judges aware that they may be assigned to judge ANY event - including limited prep events. Requests for exemptions from particular events will be ignored.

It is the coach’s responsibility to ensure that all judges are properly trained in KHSSL rules prior to the Regional Tournament.  

ONLINE BALLOTS: 

We are using online ballots at this tournament, meaning your judges should each bring a LAPTOP OR TABLET (phone will not work) to type comments in and score the rounds. If this is impossible for a particular judge, we can help provide a device to use or provide paper ballots, but it’s our hope after so many virtual tournaments that judges will be able to manage online ballots. ORIGINAL SPEECHES: 

Coaches must have Oratory and Informative speeches electronically available for retrieval (or paper copies available) at Regionals and State tournaments should questions of originality arise, but these documents no longer need be turned in at Registration.
