Hello, Golden Desert!

District Speech will be held at Palo Verde HS.

We are excited to be able to offer all events in-person for the first time since February of 2020. We want to give students the best possible preparation for Nationals, which includes abiding by the safety guidelines of the National Tournament as much as we are able. Therefore, we are doing the following:

1. All persons must fill out the health screening:

a. All CCSD Coaches must check-in on eMocha prior to arriving at the tournament. Coaches who do not receive clearance to be on campus via their eMocha check-in must communicate to the tournament director via GDSDA Slack the identity of another designated school employee who has received eMocha clearance who will accompany their students or drop their entries.

b. All Judges and non-CCSD Coaches must complete the GDSDA required health check available at this link prior to arriving at the tournament. If a Judge is a CCSD employee, they may choose to use eMocha for their health check and show their badge to the Judges' Room personnel. If non-CCSD Coaches are unable to answer "No" to all questions, they must communicate to the tournament director via GDSDA Slack the identity of a new supervising school representative who will be present at the tournament with their students or drop their entries.

c. All students, CCSD and non-CCSD, must complete the GDSDA required health check available at this link prior to arriving at the tournament. If a student is unable to answer "No" to all questions, they must stay home. They are responsible for communicating their dropped status to their coach.

d. All coaches will health screen all attending students at their designated table upon arrival in the cafeteria to provide a second layer of protection, asking the questions on Page 3 of the CCSD Athletics and Activities Consent, Waiver, and Release Agreement. Any student who answers any question with "Yes" must be isolated from the team immediately and sent home. Coaches will immediately contact the tournament director via GDSDA Slack to convey the drop and their school's administration so that appropriate contact tracing can commence.

e. Any coach who knowingly allows an adult or student who answered "Yes" to any health check question to remain on campus will be reported to CCSD District Activities and their administration so that contact tracing can commence.

2. Masks are required when indoors. Masks may be removed when outdoors or while actively consuming food or beverages. Performers may choose to remove their masks while actively speaking or performing to the judges during their roundStudents can choose to wear a mask while performing, and they will not be penalized for wearing a mask. It should be noted that increased mask restrictions may be put in place based on CDC and local recommendations closer to the event.

3. Students in speech events will not be required to observe other student performances. They will have the option of arriving at their competition room just prior to and departing immediately following their individual performance with no penalty. No other observers will be permitted in rounds.
