East Novice Tournament

2021 — Cheyenne East, US

East Novice Tournament Invitation (in-person!)

Saturday, October 30, 2021

Greetings Coaches!

You are invited to attend the annual East Novice Tournament (in person)! This is intended to be a low-stress tournament, and we hope it will be a great experience for your students. Like the Novice Workshop, we will allow varsity angels, but we will also need plenty of varsity judges to cover rounds. This year, we will offer HI, OO, Poe, EX, INF, Cong, DI, Duo, POI, LD, PF, CX.. All events will allow manuscripts. For Policy, we encourage you to share your novice affirmative case areas as soon as possible. In Extemp, we will allow students to draw a topic and use their own resources, including the internet, for preparation. We will follow the same Covid protocols as the Novice Workshop.

Registration:

  • Please enter competitors as soon as possible. Entries due on Tabroom by Friday, October 29 at 10:00pm.

  • Entry fees are $5.00 per single entry, $10.00 per team.

Resolutions:

  • Lincoln Douglas: Resolved: A just government ought to recognize an unconditional right of workers to strike. (Note: this is the varsity Nov/Dec Topic).

  • Public Forum: Resolved: Increased United States federal regulation of cryptocurrency transactions and/or assets will produce more benefits than harms. (Note: this is the varsity Nov/Dec Topic).

  • Congress: We will use a pre-set docket (click link).

  • Policy: Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its protection of water resources in the United States.

  • We also ask that novice policy cases fall into one of the four novice case areas:

    • Substantially strengthen federal surveillance and standards for lead in drinking water.

    • Substantially limit the use of hydraulic fracturing by energy companies in the United States.

    • Substantially strengthen federal standards for agriculture-related runoff into lakes and streams.

    • Substantially increase the protection of wetlands in the United States.

Rules:

Partner events (Duo, PF, and CX) will be live and partners may participate together. Competitors are encouraged to follow what they feel most comfortable with, but will be allowed to de-mask for periods under 10 minutes at one time.

Please contact me with questions!
