2021 Viking Rumble Policy Debate Novice & JV Fall Scrimmage

The Niles North Debate Program invites you and your students to the Niles North Viking Rumble on Saturday, October 23rd. We sincerely hope you and your teams will be able to attend. The schedule may be found by separately clicking on the "Schedule" page.

Date: Saturday, October 23th

Location: Niles North High School (9800 Lawler Avenue, Skokie, IL 60077) *COVID PROTOCOLS IN PLACE

Format: This is a switch-side, four round  (in person) competition. Rounds one and two will be preset, with both pairings released at the same time. Rounds three and four will be power-matched. Only students in their first year of debate may compete in the Novice division. Students are eligible to compete in the JV division if they are in their second year of debate or have not competed in elimination rounds in a JV or Open division prior to the 2021-22 school year.

Argument Requirements- Consistent with the community norm set by Chicagoland coaches, novice teams will be restricted to only read pre disclosed affirmatives from the NDCA packet and NDCA negative arguments.

Entries: Entries are on a first come, first served basis. We do not anticipate needing to turn any teams away.

Judging: Each school is required to provide one full judge per two teams. No hired judging will be available, so you must cover your commitments in full! Only debaters in their 3rd or 4th year of policy debate may judge in the Novice division. Only students in their 4th year of policy debate or high school graduates may judge in the Junior Varsity division.

Fees: Cost is $30 per team, regardless of division. Please make checks payable to Niles North High School.

Meals: Meals will be for available for preorder for lunch. There will be a few meals available for purchase the day of but if your team does not pre-order food, we may run out. We also will have snacks  available for purchase in the cafeteria during the tournament. We will also have a hospitality lounge for adult judges and coaches with snacks, coffee, pop and meals throughout the day

Awards: We will present awards for the top teams and top speakers in both divisions.
