PVSquared Parkview and Pinnacle View Halloween Invitational

Parkview Arts and Science Magnet and Pinnacle View Middle School are excited to invite you to the inaugural PVSquared Halloween Invitational hosted on NSDA Campus on Friday, October 29 and Saturday, October 30, 2021! 

Registration will open Monday, October 4, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. and will close on Monday, October 25, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. 


Event Information:
 


We will offer the following live Debate Events:

  • Novice Congressional Debate

  • Varsity Congressional Debate 

  • Novice Public Forum 

  • Varsity Public Forum 

  • Novice Lincoln Douglas

  • Varsity Lincoln Douglas

  • Big Questions 

  • Novice Policy Debate 

  • Varsity Policy Debate


We will offer the following Individual Events in a two (2) asynchronous, one (1) live prelim format:

  • Dramatic Interpretation

  • Humorous Interpretation

  • Duo Interpretation

  • Poetry Interpretation

  • Prose Interpretation

  • Program Oral Interpretation

  • Storytelling

  • Informative Speaking

  • Original Oratory

  • United States Extemp

  • Impromptu Speaking


We also plan to offer pre-recorded Group Events:

  • Readers’ Theatre 

  • Words and Music 


We reserve the right to collapse any event with ample notice due to low entry. 

Individual Event Sectioning and Breaks: 

  1. Prepared Forensics Events will have 2 asynchronous prelims and 1 synchronous prelim. All videos will be due on Monday, October 25, 2021 at 6:00 p.m.

  2. Asynchronous judging will be conducted during the week leading up to the tournament weekend on Tuesday, October 26 and Wednesday, October 27, 2021.

  3. Preliminary sections will consist of no more than eight entries. Students may enter multiple events but should be aware that rounds will NOT be held if they are late or unable to make it to all rounds. 

  4. Videos will be utilized for the live prelim if there are any PRIOR-communicated conflicts or technical issues. 

  5. Duo Interpretation will be recorded using the same area side by side or split screen. For the live rounds, duo interpretation will be performed live side by side using the same camera.

  6. Patterns will be: 

    1. Pattern A: DI, OO, DUO, PROSE

    2. Pattern B: HI, POI, INFO, ST, POE

    3. Pattern C: EXT, IMP

  7. Individual events with more than 100 total entries will break the top 40 to quarterfinals.  

  8. The top 4 from each quarterfinal round, or top 12-16 from events with fewer than 100 entries will break to semifinals. 

  9. The top 3 from each semifinal round, or the top 6-8 from events with 20 or fewer entries will break to finals. 

Debate Pairings and Breaks: 

  1. Brackets will not be broken. Rolls will be assumed for out rounds unless the coach of the team provides judges for the round in question and contacts tab with this request. 

  2. We will not allow hybrid entries but will allow maverick entries. 

  3. PF debate will be doing the coin flip. 

  4. We will run NSDA-style Congressional Debate. We will utilize bills from the ACTAA 2021 Fall Docket. Please see the tournament website for information about legislation. 

  5. All speakers will compete in two preliminary sessions of congress. One house will consist of no more than 16 speakers. If multiple houses are required, an even number from each house will advance to supersession. 

Sweepstakes and Awards:

All event finalists will receive awards. Debate event elimination round participants will receive awards. We are excited to offer sweepstakes awards for Debate Cumulative, Forensics Cumulative, and Overall Sweepstakes. 


Judging: 

We will have two judging pools: Speech and Debate/Congress. 

1 judge per 5 Congressional entries 
1 judge per 2 Debate entries 
1 judge per 10 IEs 

A $25 judging fee will be assessed per missed round of judging. We will assess a $40 missing judge fee per uncovered commitment.
