Public Forum AND Lincoln-Douglas Debate Training Workshop
ONLINE - Saturday, September 25, 2021 8:30 A.M. – 3:15 P.M.

The best season ever is back!!! No...not fall or football season, IT’S DEBATE SEASON!
This workshop is designed for students, coaches, administrators, and judges, to help add to your understanding of the Public Forum and Lincoln-Douglas style of debate. Please think about bringing new judges for training for the school year.
You will be sent handouts and watch an actual debate presented by IL Varsity Debaters. We will have sessions on the basics of each style and full topic talks on the first set of resolutions. Students do not need a partner to sign up (in PF) but if you can partner who you can, that would be excellent. Dress is casual. Every student will be given a shell case for the September/October PF/LD topic or you can bring your own prepared cases for the topic, and you will have the opportunity to participate in an actual debate!
JV/Varsity debaters will be assigned rounds to judge. Even if you are doing another style of
debate, this is a great beginning to understand the world of debate.
Fees for the training are $10 per novice debater. PLEASE have your timer, flow pad, and pen on the ready! Bring any research you have on the September/October topic to help you out. You might want to watch a couple of videos about NATO and the Baltic States (PF) and Civil Disobedience (LD) before you get here.
Resolutions:
Public Forum: The North Atlantic Treaty Organization should substantially increase its defense commitments to the Baltic states.
Lincoln Douglas: Civil Disobedience in a democracy is morally justified.
Training for PF Coaches and Judges will also be provided. Bring parents and new judges. All judges need to set up a Tabroom account. Judges will have the opportunity to judge a round of debate.

Please register your students on Tabroom.com to sign up for the training. Ensure all students have connected Tabroom accounts prior to the training. They will need these in order to participate in their practice round. They also will be using these all year to compete.
If you have a PF debater without a partner let me know and we can try and put some people together.
Please enter your JV and V members as judges for the novice rounds. You need 1 judge for every 2 teams in a division. If you are short, let me know and we will make it happen.
If you are a new coach, this will give you and your team a great jumpstart on the year no matter what type of debate you will be undertaking. We would love to invite any administrator from a school that is considering a debate program to check out debate.
