1.  Varsity teams should enter the Zoom call prior to 10AM Eastern, as Octos will start promptly.

2.  The Varsity teams Irvington Singh and Hiremani and Trinity Binday and Lizzeri have byes to quarterfinals, and to not need to arrive until Noon.

3.  Novice teams should arrive for semifinals prior to 12 Noon.

We will be repeating this information in an email to coaches:

Zoom Link for Saturday GA

The Zoom link for GA is:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87028126617?pwd=TDdpWjFSaFQxOFJ2NFVPU1Z2SldaZz09

The zoom call will open at 9AM EASTERN TIME and General Assembly will start at 9:30AM EASTERN TIME.  We will start promptly at 9:30, so all debaters and judges should be in the meeting before 9:30AM.  GA will include an equity briefing and last minute instructions for the tournament.

Tournament Announcement Page

The link for the tournament announcement page is:

 https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mSNHKB04FA18EkzEC9mw4qkE9uMCi57bjUcSZfHrhRo/edit?usp=sharing

This link is live now.  Debaters and judges should check this page during the tournament for motions and updates on round start times, though we expect to stick to our "2 hours per round" schedule, with rounds at 10AM, 12 Noon, 2PM and 4PM  (all Eastern time).

Who Will Break?

In Varsity only teams 3-1 or better will break to eliminations.  The math says that will be 13-14 teams, so we will break to partial octofinals.  Varsity elims on Sunday will start at 10AM Eastern Time.

In Novice, we will break the top 4 teams to semifinals, one of whom may only have a 2-2 record.  Novice semifinals will start at 12 Noon Eastern Time, so Novices who break get an extra two hours of sleep.

Judging on Sunday

We have 20 schools in attendance, and a number of Vassar debaters will also be judging.  We need each school to designate 1 judge--and only one judge--to be available on Sunday.  That judge will not be needed (though they will be welcome to stay) past Varsity quarterfinals/Novice finals which will end by 2PM.

Invitation

On behalf of the Vassar College Debate Society, we invite you and your team to the sixth annual Vassar College Invitational Tournament from Saturday, October 30th to Sunday, October 31st, 2021. This online tournament will consist of competition in Varsity and Novice Parliamentary Debate.

This tournament does qualify for NPDL TOC points.

This is Vassar’s sixth consecutive year hosting our high school tournament. We hope to replicate the success of previous years by making our tournament as efficient, well-organized, and enjoyable as attendees have come to expect. This year, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we have decided to move the tournament to the NSDA Campus online platform.

Please download the full invitation posted on this page.  The tournament opens for registration on Monday, September 13 at Noon.

Sincerely,

The Vassar Debate Association
