Viking Clash
2021 — Bountiful, UT/US
Welcome to the 2021 Viewmont Viking Clash
The 2021 Viking Clash will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021. During the day, we will hold 2 sessions of Congress and 4 sessions of Speech and Debate. All events, including interpretation events and oratory, will be held live.
Events, Rules, and Awards
The events at our tournament will be:
DEBATE:
Congress (Novice/Open)
Public Forum (Novice/Open)
Lincoln Douglass (Novice/Open)
Policy (Novice/Open)
Big Questions Debate (Open ONLY)
Parliamentary Debate (Open ONLY, see rules page for specific rules)
SPEECH (All speech events are Open ONLY):
Impromptu
National Extemp
Foreign Extemp
Original Oratory
Informational
Combined Interpretation (HI, DI, POI, or DUO)
PENTATHALON (see rules page for specific rules)
For topics, dockets, and specific rules, please refer to each event's particular page.
We welcome and permit double entry at our tournament. Because of the new alternating debate/speech structure of the tournament, this has recently changed. Policy and Congress are forbidden from double entry. Otherwise, students may choose 1 debate event, and two speech events. For this purpose, pentathlon counts as a speech event. Within speech, you may only enter one of National Extemp, Foreign Extemp, or Pentathlon. Although we still want to impress that double entry is at your own risk, these rules should ensure that the tournament runs smoothly and that everyone can make it to whatever events they pursue.
Our tournament will award trophies and the customary Viking Helmets to top finishers. In addition, Novices in categories in which no novice category is given will be given novice finisher awards. The special "Valkyrie" award will also be given to the top contender in the Pentathlon. A sweepstakes award will also be given for the top school overall.
