Welcome to the first Massachusetts Junior Debate League Tournament. It will take place online on May 8, 2021, and will be hosted on Google Meets.

Since we are hosting the tournament on Google Meet, please make sure that all debaters have a personal Gmail account that they can use to sign in to the round.

Modified Public Forum Format 

At this tournament, we will be using a Modified Public Forum format.

This format will help make debating more accessible and less daunting to middle schoolers. Once we have more people in attendance, we may create a Varsity Middle School division with a full Public Forum Format and a Novice division with this Modified Public Forum format.

Speaking position will be decided by a coin flip, but pro/con will be sidelocked.

Independent Entry Sign-up

If you would like to sign up as an independent entry not affiliated with a school, please fill out this Google Form. When you fill out the form, please make sure that both you and your partner fill it out and that the email used is a Gmail account.

Registration Fees

There will be a school fee of $20, but no individual fee per competitor.

Judging

All judges should be Public Forum debaters with either 2+ years of experience or have debated 5+ tournaments in the varsity division. Judges should be able to give comprehensive feedback to debaters after the round.
