Welcome to the SY 2020-21 Citi Financial Literacy Debates! In this debate series, students will debate the following question:

If a student has sole responsibility for the cost of their college education, is it a better financial decision to begin their college education at a 2-year college or to begin their college education at a 4-year college?

For the last few weeks, our students have been preparing cases that compare the differences between attending a community college for the first two years of college and taking out loans to attend a four-year college from the start.

These students have been strategizing ways to add their own ideas and research to build out the topic too. This debate focuses on the individual financial impact of this decision.

During the 2020-21 Citi Financial Literacy Debates, debaters will be able to use the same advocacy, analysis, and problem-solving skills you use in all other forms of debate. The critical difference is that they will be called upon to apply those skills to determine the best personal financial decision when considering where to begin their college journey.
