2021 SECTION 3 DEBATE TOURNAMENT SCHEDULING EXPLANATION

To Be Confirmed by Coaches

December 9, 2020 DRAFT

Policy Debate – 3 schools – 6 teams

Each Policy team will debate 4 rounds in a round-robin schedule. Each team will meet both teams from each of the other schools other than their own school. Teams will meet all such teams on opposite sides of the topic when their schools meet in competition.

Entries from the same school will not be paired against each other throughout the tournament.

Lincoln-Douglas Debate – 6 schools – 12 debaters Public Forum Debate – 7 schools – 13 teams

Each LD and PF entry will debate a total of 5-6 rounds. The first 2 rounds will be preset with each entry having 1 affirmative and 1 negative round against entries from 2 different schools other than their own school.

Entries from the same school will not be paired against each other throughout the tournament.

One team will have a bye each round in Public Forum due to the odd number of registered teams.

The rounds after the 2 preset rounds will be powered according to the following powering format approved by section coaches last year:

Any event with 10+ entries

Round 1 and 2 are preset randomly.  Schools cannot meet for a second time in the preset rounds.

Round 3 to 6 are powered hi/low within brackets.  All pull-ups are done via Worst Opponent Seed (see Rule III State Debate Tournament - B State Tournament Debate Pairing - #1 Rounds 3 to 6)
