Dear Friends and Colleagues,
On behalf of the Minutemen Speech Program and Lexington High School, we are proud to invite you to attend the New Year Minutemen Speech Tournament on Saturday, January 8, 2022 hosted at the Lexington Middle School. Our team’s mission statement speaks to empowering students to become leaders in our global community through competitive speech, so we hope to deliver a competition that also inspires your students to think about how they use their voices to positively influence others.
Hosting this tournament is meaningful to our team and coaching staff because we have the opportunity to collaborate with you to provide a learning experience for all of our students to showcase their many talents. We are thankful to be part of this supportive, talented, and passionate community.
COMPETITION: The tournament will include both novice and varsity divisions with medals awarded to the top six places in both novice and varsity for each of the nine NSAA speech events. Duet Acting will allow scripts to be used. You may enter each competitor in a maximum of three events. Our format will include three rounds with no final rounds.
REGISTRATION: To help us with planning, please email Daniel Arias at Daniel.Arias@lexschools.org at your earliest convenience to let us know that your team will be attending. Fees are $7.00 per entry and you need to provide one judge per six entries or pay an additional $75.00 for any uncovered entries. We want to strongly encourage you to make every effort to provide judges to cover your entries. If you do not arrive with the number of judges you specified in your entry, you will be billed accordingly. We want students to leave with excellent ballots to continue growing, so please consider recruiting certified or experienced judges. All entries are due Wednesday, January 5th, 2022 by 5:00 pm. There will be no entries accepted the morning of the tournament. We are working with David Cooper and registrations will be handled online; to register please visit http://lexington.tabroom.com
LOGISTICS: We will welcome your team starting at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday.
SERVICE & LEADERSHIP AWARDS: To align with our mission statement, we will once again be awarding a “Service & Leadership Award” to one junior or senior student from each high school represented at the tournament. As a coach, you will decide which student will win this award from your school, so we are requesting that each coach send in a brief, one paragraph nomination that will be read at the awards ceremony when we recognize our youth leaders. Our speech students are known for being role models in our communities and we want to recognize their leadership. The student you nominate should influence others to take positive action toward productive change and exercise the talents he or she has been given to provide service to his or her peers, community, and the activity. Please email your nomination by Wednesday, January 5, 2022 to Daniel.Arias@lexschools.org.
