2020 — NSDA Campus, HI/US

WHAT Speech and Congress Online Non-Qualifying Tournament

WHEN Saturday, December 12, 2020

ENTRY DEADLINE Friday, December 4, 2020 for registration, congressional bills, and judges.

PARTICIPATION Open to all HSL member schools that have paid their HSL membership dues and submitted their signed membership form.

LIMITS: There is no school limit for this tournament. Double entries ARE at this tournament.

JUDGES: Each school must provide one (1) judge for every three (3) speech entries and (1) unaffiliated judge for congressional debate entries. Schools that do not provide the required number of judges may have entries withdrawn from the tournament. We will be grateful for any additional judges you can provide.

Your recordings must begin with the introduction "My name is (First Name Last Name) from (School Name). I am presenting the following (Event Name) for the HSL December Speech Tournament." This will serve as proof that your recording is intended for competition in this tournament only. If the introductory phrase is not present, it will not be scored by judges.

Contestants in Duo Interpretation are not to perform in the same room. If you are looking for ways to make this possible, the NSDA put together a video for their 2020 National tournament that would meet the criteria well. https://www.speechanddebate.org/duo-interp-split-screen-demo-nats-2020/

There are to be no in person audiences during the recording.

Recordings are to be made from a single camera in a fixed position.

Editing of recordings is not permitted and there should be no breaks in recording.

Unless otherwise noted, all rounds will be judged using a single video submission throughout the tournament.

Video submissions for prepared speech events are due December 9th at 9:00 PM.

Topics will be released on Tabroom on 12/9 at 3:00 PM. There will be three rounds, each with six topics from which to choose.

Video submissions are due December 9th at 9:00 PM.

Students should not receive assistance from anyone while preparing their speeches.
