Thank you for attending the 3rd Annual Wildcat Cup at the University of Arizona. The University of Arizona Debate Series is proud and honored to be able to host this tournament once again. We appreciate your support in bringing the Arizona Speech and Debate community to Tucson. The Wildcat Cup was created on the premise of uniting and informing the community. You make our mission possible, as your students show that the future is bright with the skills they have developed and showcase in this activity.

The University of Arizona Debate Series is a leading organization that focuses on creating public discourse and informing society on ongoing issues. Through the use of monthly public debates, our members not only strive to showcase their debate skills, but most importantly engage with the community. For the Spring 2021 semester, we invite you to attend our upcoming debates ranging from debate itself on February 4th to drug legalization on April 15th. We are hoping to have our best year yet and would love for you to watch online.

With more than 25 active members part of the University of Arizona Debate Series and a large network of Speech and Debate alumni, we are grateful to be able to provide hired judges for the third year in a row. If your school is unable to provide a judge, please contact us to discuss requesting a hired judge.

Tournament Information

There is a $15 team base fee, a $12 fee for partner entrees, and a $6 fee for individual entries.

We are proud to offer the following events: Congress, Open Lincoln Douglas, Open Public Forum, Original Oratory, Informative Speaking, Impromptu, Extemp, Dramatic Interp, Humorous Interp, Duo Interp, Prose, Poetry, and Program Oral Interp. We reserve the right to collapse similar events or cancel events if entry numbers do not permit a good competition field.

Students may enter a maximum of congress, one debate, and three IE's. It is their responsibility to ensure that they arrive to all rounds on time.

All debate events (Congress, OLD, OPF) will have LIVE synchronous rounds held over NSDA campus. PF and LD will be using the February 2021 topic. Congress legislation must be submitted by 1/18 and the docket will be posted on 1/20/21.

Limited Prep IE’s (Extemporaneous Speaking and Impromptu Speaking) will have LIVE synchronous rounds held over NSDA Campus

All other IE’s (Oratory, Informative, Humorous Interp, Dramatic Interp, Prose, Poetry, Program Oral Interp) will have PRE RECORDED asynchronous preliminary rounds with LIVE synchronous elimination rounds

DUO INTERP will be entirely ASYNCHRONOUS and PRE RECORDED

    • For recording, we recommend using Zoom and its built-in recording functionality. Editing the videos beyond merely truncating the beginning and end (to eliminate footage of fiddling with the camera, for example) will not be allowed. The use of professional lighting will not be allowed (we highly recommend that performers find a large window, put the camera near the window, and face that direction for good, consistent illumination) (DON'T skirt this one by using your stage lights or something! That's not cool. Other folks don't have that ability/access). We do recommend that competitors use microphones of some sort when recording (the microphone built into wireless headphones is usually a good choice.

Video Submissions are due to tabroom on 1/25 by 5pm. Any entries missing submissions by that point will be dropped from that event and the appropriate drop fees will be issued.

All links for videos submitted must be from YouTube. At the last tournament, some of the videos submitted had been saved to Google Drive which created issues for some of the judges trying to watch them. To prevent this, we strongly suggest that competitors save their videos to YouTube and set it as UNLISTED so anyone with the link will be able to view the video. DO NOT set is as PRIVATE. This will only allow the owner to access and view the video.

We strongly encourage you to utilize our hired judges if you are unable to fulfill your burden. It is only $15 per judge per day. A $25 fee will be issued for any judge swaps that need to occur.
