The 1st Annual Hyde Invitational at Saratoga High School

Saratoga High School is proud to invite all middle schoolers to the very first Hyde Invitational. Karen Hyde was a vice-principal at Saratoga High School for over forty years.  As a student, she participated in speech,  and as an administrator,  she was integral in the reconstruction of the Saratoga High School Speech and Debate Team. She is a champion of forensics,  and we at Saratoga are happy to welcome you middle schoolers on her behalf. We dedicate this tournament to her and the great work she did for this great program. 

The tournament will take place from 12/19-12/20. Speech events will have 3 preliminary rounds and elimination rounds on Saturday. Debate events will have 5 preliminary rounds on Saturday and elimination rounds on Sunday. All speech events (with the exception of extemporaneous and impromptu) will have prerecorded preliminary rounds and live elimination rounds. All rounds are single-flighted. All speech participants will be able to double enter in other speech events. Speech participants with the exception of extemporaneous speaking and impromptu will be allowed to double enter in debate. 

Events offered:

Original Oratory, Expository Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, Impromptu, Elementary Impromptu, Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Oratorical Interpretation, Original Prose and Poetry, Program of Oral Interpretation, Spontaneous Argumentation (SPAR) Public Forum, and Lincoln Douglas

Debate Topics: 

For both Public Forum and Lincoln Douglas, competitors will be debating with the Nov/Dec topic.

The costs for entries are as follows:

School Fee: $25 per school

Public Forum: $60/team

Lincoln Douglas: $40/entry

Speech: $30/entry

Judges:

Each school has to provide 1 judge for every 2 entries from their school. The judge buyout fee per judge is $75. (We would much rather have your judge than the buyout fee)
