Topeka West Debate Invitational
2020 — NSDA Campus, KS/US
Topeka West Invitational 2020
Topic: We will debate the 2020-2021 NSDA Criminal Justice Reform resolution.
Divisions: We will host a novice and a JV division. JV will be for 1st and 2nd year competitors, or students whom you know to be appropriately placed in this division. This is not the tournament to send your DCI teams, KDC teams, or teams that break/medal in the Open division.
Novice Case List: Although it is the second weekend of November, we believe that many novices would still benefit from a limited set of cases and negative arguments. For this reason, we will utilize the novice caselist and negative evidence. We will supplement this evidence set with a new politics DA, which will replace the elections DA and will be sent out to participating schools and posted on tabroom prior to the competition.
Entries: Schools are capped at 4 entries initially We will give preference to our Flint Hills District schools, then folks who traditionally attend our tournament and/or give us spots at theirs, and then everyone else. I think we should be able to accommodate larger entries, but I want to make sure we do right by our Flint Hills Schools. I think I should be able to do both.
Rd 1 - 8:00
Rd 2 - 10:00
Rd 3 - 1:00
Rd 4 - 3:00
Awards - 5:00 or ASAP
All schools are required to provide a judge for every 2 entries. For your novice entries, you may provide an advanced debater as a judge - please indicate on tabroom that this judge is a student by creating a note, or if you are unsure how to do that, please let the tournament know in advance and we will take care of it. We will try to provide a small pool of community judges to supplement your judges and give you some rounds off.
To cover the cost of rooms, we ask for an entry fee of $5 per team.
We will announce the top 6 teams in each division at the conclusions of the tournament.
Medals will be mailed out. Because of shipping fees, we will not have a sweepstakes trophy, but we will continue our tradition of announcing 1st - 3rd place at our assembly
