Carmel High School Debate Invitational

We are proud to announce Carmel High School's first interscholastic debate tournament on November 21st, 2020 over Discord! This tournament will feature LD, PF, Policy, Congress, and World Schools debate, with novice and varsity levels for each.

All debaters, judges, and coaches will need to join the server before the tournament. Please name yourself with your full name and school and check the appropriate boxes! For more information, it is highly encouraged to review the 'Discord Guide' page on the right sidebar. 



For LD/PF/CX/WSD, there will be 4 rounds starting at 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 1:45 PM, and 3:30 PM, with rounds 3 and 4 power-matched. LD/PF will be double-flighted. Sessions for Congress will start at 10:00 AM and 1:30 PM.

The live awards ceremony will be at 5:30 PM. However, we will not be distributing ribbons in order to avoid entry fees.


Each format will follow November topics and guidelines set by the IHSFA, as detailed below:

Lincoln-Douglas: Resolved: The United States ought to provide a federal jobs guarantee.

Public Forum: Resolved: The United States should adopt a declaratory nuclear policy of no first use.

Policy: Resolved: The United States federal government should enact substantial criminal justice reform in the United States in one or more of the following: forensic science, policing, sentencing.

Novice Policy areas:

Forensic Science: Limit use of facial recognition software.

Policing: Abandon federal efforts to force local police to assist in immigration enforcement

Sentencing: Abolish mandatory minimum sentences.

Sentencing: Drug decriminalization.

Congress: This tournament will only be debating #2, 3, 4, and 5 from the November docket. There will be one morning and one afternoon session.

III. A Resolution to Remove Sanctions Against North Korea
IV. A Resolution to Allocate Funding to the United States Postal Service
V. A Bill to Increase Taxes on Millionaires

World Schools Debate: There will be four rounds of prepared motions and no impromptu motions. Novice and Varsity may be combined, depending on number of registrations.

Rounds 1-2: This House would eliminate the Department of Homeland Security.

Rounds 3-4: This House regrets the American trade war with China.


Registration, Judging, and Entry Fees/Caps

No entry fees! No caps on entries as long as the judging ratio is fulfilled. You're welcome. :)

Judging: We are requesting 1 judge for every 4 entries. Please submit these via Tabroom by Nov. 19, at 11:59 PM
