Holt High School ONLINE Debate Tournament

October 24, 2020

 

You and your team are invited to attend the Holt Debate Tournament on Saturday, October 24, 2020. In this one-day tournament format, we’ll be offering novice and open divisions in both Congressional  and Public Forum Debate. The tournament will take place completely online via tabroom.com for scoring and Zoom conference rooms for competition.

 

CONGRESSIONAL:: Novice and Open divisions with 2 preliminary sessions and a Super Session. Students must be entered by full name as well as whether or not the student wants to be considered for Presiding Officer. We will give speaker awards in each division. One judge is required for every 8 entries. All judges are required to judge one round beyond their team's elimination.  

 

Each school attending the tournament MUST submit at least one bill.  Schools may enter more than one, but we can’t promise we’ll use all of them. Bills are due to bcurrin@hpsk12.net no later than SATURDAY, October 17, at 5:00 PM so that I can get the docket back to registered schools by Monday October 19th.   

 

PUBLIC FORUM:  Varsity, Novice and Middle Level Divisions using MIFA rules on the Sept/Oct NSDA topic which is. Resolved: The United States federal government should enact the Medicare-For-All Act of 2019. We will offer 4 preliminary rounds with appropriate elimination rounds based on entries.  One judge is required for every 2 two teams—lay judges are preferred. All judges are required to have tabroom.com accounts and reliable internet access. Judge are expected to be available for one round beyond their team’s elimination.  We will give elimination and speaker awards based on entries.

 

Online Competition: All rounds will take place online in Zoom conference breakout rooms. Schematics, ballots & results will be on tabroom.com. We recommend you share this with contestants & judges — MIFA How To Compete Online.

Judges: We will have some judges available for hire if necessary, but please ask early so that I can accommodate you.  Hired judges will cost $100 for either Congress or Public Forum.

Deadline for entry is Wednesday, October 21st.  

 

Fees: Public Forum units will be $25 per 2 person team

Congressional entries will be $7.00 per student.
