NYCFL Fall Debate at Not Regis OPEN TO ALL NY NJ AND MA TEAMS

2020 — NSDA Campus, NY/US

Greetings.

We will run 3 rounds, single-flighted. This assumes a lot of startup friction in the novice divisions, which in the non-virtual world have historically been the largest at this event, and mostly first-times at that (both teams and judges!). If things go swimmingly, however, and the numbers warrant it, there may be 4 rounds in some divisions.

NYCFL rules. Student judges may judge nov and JV; they must be at least juniors with roughly 200 NSDA points in their debate division. HS grads only in Varsity divisions, either former debaters or laity carefully trained by their coaches. No flip in PF; pro goes first. Disclosure is optional, but we expect good, informative, helpful ballots. No LPWs or tied points; this is a learning division, and we want clear direction.

As the invite says, schools from NY, NJ or MA are invited. Exceptions might be possible: reach out to the listed tournament contact.

The tournament is open to 9th - 12th graders officially representing the schools they attend. Teams must comprise entries from the same school. No independent or student-created entries or anonymous team accounts will be accepted. The listed contact must be an adult, i.e., over 21 years of age. Registrations will be carefully vetted for compliance.

Novice is defined as a student in their first season (2020-21) of debate competition at any level. Coaches may contact the tournament if they wish to offer exceptions. JV is second-year or lightly experienced third-years.
