Mary Beth McCarthy JV Debate Invitational at Hayden Catholic

Coaches,

You are cordially invited to the Mary Beth McCarthy JV Debate Invitational “at” Hayden Catholic High School on December 5, 2020. This year we will be hosting an online tournament utilizing NSDA campus. Though this format allows for the possibility of bigger tournaments, we will be sticking to only allowing 40 entries.

We will be debating Resolved: The United States federal government should enact substantial criminal justice reform in the United States in one or more of the following: forensic science, policing, sentencing.

Division: JV. We define a JV debater as a competitor in their 1st or 2nd year.

Format: 8-3-5 with 8 minutes of prep.

Fees: $6 per team.

Entries: Entries will be accepted via Tabroom.  We are able to accommodate approximately 40 teams in a one division, junior varsity tournament only; therefore, each school may enter up to 3 teams. All entries will be initially "wait listed.”  All times and deadlines are listed on tabroom. Since we need to purchase NSDA campus rooms, the deadlines are a bit earlier. Should entries become an issue, entries will be prioritized as follows: first to Flint Hills, second to people who have reciprocated to Hayden, and third in the order received.

Schedule: Debaters will participate in 4 rounds of competition. There will be no semi-finals or finals. The tournament schedule will be pre-set during rounds one and two and afterwards delay-power matched.

Awards: We may or may not have a ceremony. Medals and plaques will be mailed out to you. We will medal top 6 teams, and top 3 schools.

Judging: Rounds will be adjudicated by a single judge. I suspect we won’t have a ton of issues finding judges. Though it would be awesome if folks had 1-2 they could throw in the pool. We rely heavily on our community pool. Not sure how tech savvy folks are going to be. We also have quite a few alumni nowadays that I know would be willing to pitch in.
