2020 SCJFL 1st Quarter Speech Only Tournament: 

The Wolpert-Gawron Invitational 

 

 

Greetings!

On Saturday, October 31st, 2020 Jefferson Middle School will be hosting the 2020 SCJFL 1st Quarter Speech Only Tournament - The Wolpert-Gawron Invitational, and we hope that your school or organization will be joining us.

We will close entries on Tuesday. October 27th at noon, PST.

 

Events:

—Storytelling (5 min.)
—SPAR (open and novice divisions, but may collapse divisions if entries warrant) 

—Informative (10 min., visual aids are permitted)
—Duo (10 min.)
—Prose (7 min.; uses a binder)
—Declamation (10 min.)
—Humorous Interp (10 min.)
—O.O./Persuasive (10 min.)
—Original Interp (7 min.)
—Impromptu (7 min. bank) 

Round 1 - concrete nouns 

Round 2 - abstract nouns 

Round 3 - Adjectives 

Final Round - quotations 

 

 

Students may enter up to two events.  For a complete list of rules, please visit the SCJFL.org website and click on RULES & BY-LAWS.  Please also note the SCJFL Best Practices Guide on the tournament homepage.  These documents will be used for all decisions made during SCJFL tournaments.

 

 

 

Fees: 

$10 per individual entry (Duo is $20)

One judge covers 5 slots.

Judge fee: $20 per uncovered slot (see more explanation below)
Changes or drops after Tuesday. October 27th, 2020 at 12:05 p.m. PST will be charged a $10 nuisance fee for each change or drop.  Judges changes after October 30th 12:05 a.m. PST will be charged a $50 judge nuisance fee.  Judge drops after this date will be charged a $100 judge no-show fee.  

All fees should be paid through the ForensicsTournament.net website.  Click the TOURNAMENT FEES tab on the left side of the tournament home page.

 

League Fees: 

For schools that have not already paid their league fees, payments must be made to and are due the day of the tournament. The fees are as follows: $200 for schools that only compete at the elementary level and $400 for schools that compete at the elementary and middle school level. Any additional tournament fees should be paid separately to SCJFL. Per the bylaws, all schools must send one representative to volunteer at one of the upcoming SCJFL tournaments. Schools that do not pay their league fees or sign up to volunteer will have their entries dropped.

 

Judging Requirements: 

One judge covers 5 slots.

Please remember that judge training is the responsibility of the school entering that judge.  While we will briefly recap some of the events, the majority of the training should be done by the school entering that judge.

9:00 – Round 1

10:30 – Round 2

12:00 – Round 3

2:00 –  Finals

4:00 – Awards
