Greenhill Fall Classic
2020 — Addison, TX/US
The Greenhill Debate team cordially invites you to virtually attend the 34th annual Greenhill Fall Classic Debate Tournament, September 18-21, 2020. We will try to offer you and your students not only outstanding academic competition but also a pleasant tournament experience. Rest assured the 34th edition of the Greenhill Fall Classic will be a special one.
Obviously we will be moving online due to COVID-19. We have spent quite some time figuring out the best schedule for most attendees given the factors of balancing screen time for students, coaches, judges, as well as attendees from different time zones. We believe we will provide an amazing experience for everyone. We will use the Classrooms.cloud platform that was used by the TOC and NSDA Nationals for the Fall Classic.
Please notice the tournament schedule: World Schools rounds will be held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; Policy and Lincoln Douglas rounds will be held Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Given that there is no travel time, we believe that spreading rounds out a bit will result in a more healthy experience for all involved.
Greenhill School has been designated as a University of Kentucky Tournament of Champions qualifying tournament for both policy debate teams and Lincoln Douglas debaters reaching the octafinals as well as a maximum point earner for the National Debate Coaches Association Championship.
Please read the invitation carefully in that it contains new and important information that will affect all those attending the tournament. A common theme of this invitation, based on the language and implicit assumptions therein, is that you are a guest of Greenhill School and its coaching staff and by competing in the tournament, you are agreeing to adhere to our guidelines as a condition of participation in the Greenhill Fall Classic. While we certainly hope that you join us, if you have pedagogical beliefs that differ from our requests, we respectfully ask that you exercise your right to attend other competitive opportunities for your students. We believe that attending an invitational tournament such as the Fall Classic is a privilege, not a right.
We are excited that we will have an official Equity Offer/Ombudsperson as a component of the Greenhill Fall Classic to be available to those with equity concerns.
Last year, over 105 schools, 100 policy debate teams, and 115 Lincoln-Douglas debaters from 23 states competed in the Fall Classic. We expect an outstanding and competitive field this year as well. Entries must be received by Friday, September 4th. However, we recommend you enter at the earliest possible date. We have been full long before the deadline for the past several years, so please enter early to ensure entry. All entries must be submitted on the www.tabroom.com website. Please do not email or call in entries - they will not be accepted.
Classrooms.Cloud Demo Site: https://tournaments.classrooms.cloud/classroom/greenhill-demo/ (All competitors and judges should go to this link to make sure they can login to the Classrooms.Cloud site prior to competition at the RR and/or Invitational.) This should minimize connection hiccups when the competition starts.
Help Document/Tutorials: Many of you have used Classrooms.cloud previously. For others it is a new platform. The following link has some videos that might help navigate the platform. Link: priten.me/cchelp .
