The Memevitational

2020 — Discord,

Welcome to the prestigious first-ever fundraiser Memevitational hosted on the 29th of May at the luxurious facilities of Discord.

Like never before, debaters will get the opportunity to give success a break and instead have fun basically throwing rounds. The Memevitational Round Robin welcomes you to read that one ridiculous case you’ve been saving for a walkover round at a tournament or the most nonsensical theories.

Some examples of the style of debate the Memevitational welcomes:

In sum, this tournament is designed to bring the community together with the fun debates we’ve always wished we could have. To preserve some element of competitiveness, our judges will be evaluating rounds under their own criteria, which might look to which team provides the most entertainment value in round, who fits the nuanced requirements of their sure to be hilarious paradigms, or who simply wins their ridiculous arguments on the flow.

Charity element

Another factor that sets this tournament apart is that by paying an entry fee (amount of your choice, preferably between $5 - $15 per person) that will go to various charities, debaters have the opportunity to contribute to good causes while also having fun. Specifically, at the end of the tournament, 100% of its earnings will go to the charities chosen by teams that break to elimination rounds. The amount of money donated to the charity of each team's choice will depend on their success in eliminations. For example, the champion team will get the biggest chunk, finalists will get the second biggest, semifinalists the third, and so forth.

To donate, read and fill out this form - https://forms.gle/fxX62CZrEG3HKAzz9.

This tournament is 10 percent a product of our unfaltering motivation to pursue excellence in debate, 20 percent a result of our determination to contribute to a good cause, and 70 percent a coping mechanism for our boredom. We hope you participate!

You may have an unconventional number of judges in prelims, perhaps a panel of 3 (always an odd number, of course). The dominant vote will function as one ballot, so a 2-1 turns into a 1-0, and the ballot with your highest average speaks will be picked.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Round 3 will be power matched, Round 1 and 2 are randomly paired.

Hybrid entries (people from different schools partnering) and independent entries are welcome and encouraged.

Other Important

Because of the style of debate that we'll be hosting, judges will be evaluating rounds in different, perhaps unconventional ways. Some may look to the team that provides the most entertainment value, and others may actually look to the flow. Regardless, we encourage you to NOT worry about the ballot, because at the end of the day, we're all here to just have fun and contribute to a good cause.
